Brains. A New Ending

Brains:
A new ending.

Gina Capaldi could not believe her eyes and ears when Mr. Dimitri told her she will never be short

of money again. All her wishes, her hopes and her dreams will finally come true. However, Mr. Dimitri was hiding something behind his eyes, and Gina, who was a very intelligent woman, was able to see it...

Gina accepted Mr Dimitri´s proposal. When she left his office,  Mr. Dimitri called Miss Epstein and he told her: "Please, could you connect me with the president of the Monkeys Brains Company? It's very urgent!"  Miss Epstein answered: "Yes, of course! And what is the reason of your call?". "Just call this man and then transfer the call to me. Thanks!", Mr. Dimitri told her in an angry voice.

Gina went to the laboratory and put Max into her bag. She loves Max so she wanted Max´s freedom.

Gina felt that she was responsible for the destiny of Max and she thought that it was time to change it. So, Gina picked up Max and went to the jungle. "Max should be free", she said to herself. "Although I love Max a lot, he should be free".

Miss Epstein called Mr. Jonas, the president of The Monkeys' Brains Company, and transferred the call to Mr. Dimitri.  Then she went to the laboratory.

The Monkey's Brains Company is in charge of the purchase and sale of monkeys' brains, mainly if  monkeys are intelligent.

"Hello Mr. Jonas", Mr. Dimitri said.

"Hi Mr. Dimitri", Mr. Jonas answered. "Do you have any monkey for me?"

"Yes, of course!, and it's a  very special monkey. When could we meet and where?", Mr. Dimitri asked.

"Could you come to my office tomorrow  to discuss the price?", Mr. Jonas asked.

"I'm afraid I've arranged to go to Mexico tonight. Could we make it in one hour? Is that all right?",  Mr. Dimitri said.

"It's perfect for me! Thank you very much! See you later!", Mr. Jonas replied.

"See you soon", Mr. Dimitri answered.

When Miss Epstein arrived at the laboratory, she didn´t find Max. She thought  that  somebody had killed Max. Then, Miss Epstein started to scream "Max was robbed, Max was robbed!" and that alarmed Mr. Dimitri.

Mr. Dimitri called his assistants who were located around the laboratory and into the jungle, and they began the search of Max.

How do you want the story to end?

Many kilometers away from the laboratory, in the jungle, Gina said goodbye to Max.

When Max saw his family, he took a branch of tree, held it firmly as a pen and  wrote on the soil: "Thank you!" Gina looked at Max's eyes and said:  "Sorry Max, I was wrong to have you in the lab. The jungle is your home. This is your life!".

Max kissed Gina and went back to his  family. The other monkeys embraced Max. This moment will be kept in Gina's memory for ever.

Gina returned to her car and when she was inside, she heard a noise. She looked at the jungle and two monkeys fell off a tall tree. Gina thought: "What's happened?  Is that Max?"

She returned to the jungle and looked  around: "Where are the monkeys?", she wondered.

She couldn't  find  the monkeys. After a few minutes she saw a truck with a big cage at the back. The monkeys were in the truck's cage. On the truck she read: "Dimitri's Laboratory". She couldn't  believe her eyes!

Gina stopped her car. She wondered how to let the monkeys free again. There was nobody in the vehicle so Gina walked slowly to the truck, opened the cage and returned to her car. The monkeys got off the truck and ran away to the trees. After waiting for an hour she saw two men coming back to the truck.

When the men returned to the truck, they thought that the monkeys were in the cage. The truck driver started the engine and drove back to the laboratory.

Some hours later, when the truck was far away, Max and his family came down from the trees and embraced Gina. Gina was a very sensitive woman. She began to cry and she drove her car behind Max and his family into the jungle.  However, she knew she should go back to her home and continue with her life.

When Gina was driving her car behind Max, she recalled her life with Max from the day that she knew him. Max was a baby and he needed her. From that moment on Gina was like his mother.

Once Gina was at home, she called the Animal Protection Association, commonly called A.P.A, and
told them all she knew about Mr. Dimitri and his cruelty with animals.

Two days later, Gina read in the newspaper: "Strange deaths from overdoses of drug to improve intelligence in laboratory of important university. Two people were recognized as Epstein and Dimitri." The report said that they were sitting on chairs and had written on their foreheads: "Drugs to improve the intelligence of monkeys must be used only in monkeys.  Drugs in humans are lethal. Max".

On the desk at the office there was a bottle containing a white powder with a label that read "also suitable for humans".

Although nobody understood what had happened, Gina knew that was Max's work.

On line dictations come to life

Wow! I've just restarted following Nick's blogs, and as usual, I've got to know one more tool to apply to education. This time, listen and write. How about listening to this telephone call and writing down the whole message, part of the message or just a few words? There are three choices.
Let's give it a try by clicking here.

I maintained for many years that dictations were not a good idea, mainly if applied to teaching Business English. I wonder how many times, in a real work situation, people dictated something to others. However, I do believe this tool makes my views change completely.

Supporters of dictations say that dictations are useful and that they are part of real like. Of course, they are. I usually dictate a supermarket list to my son while he is at the PC either working, chatting or aimlessly looking for an interesting site and I do it because I am myself doing something somewhere else far from the reach of a pen and paper. And the same happens in the real working world. Many times I've seen and heard my students dictating figures on the phone to colleagues abrod, e-mail addresses and phone numbers to workmates on another floor, parts of an e-mail to a secretary whose draft needed correction.

I guess there must be plenty of examples why we should favour dictations that resemble real working life practices. My colleagues, surely, will find others and I do hope they will share their views on this topic.

Marcadores Sociales
